Friend-cember Part 2

One year ago today
I wrote a blog called Friend-cember
(My titles strug, I know)
Which means that one year ago today
I met Phil
One of the best friends I've made in Boston
Or anywhere else for that matter
Phil's the type of guy who can talk to anyone
Anywhere
Anytime
About anything
A solid cat, Phil is
I can't believe it's been a year
Because sometimes it feels like we've known each other forever

Yesterday
Sonia and I met Melinda
An actress
Who's helping us out
Next week is the first reading of the musical
And I'm panicking
But meeting Melinda was healing
For both of us
Because it made the stuff that's on paper
And on iTunes
And in our heads
Come to life
This is a very exciting time
Watching what we've built
Live outside of us

This weekend
More great opportunities to be with friends
New and old
Friday night
The Jeannie Johnson in Jamaica Plain
Because a sort of mini-reunion
For graduates of Boston Latin School
My friend Becca amazes me
Working full time
And getting her masters at the University of Chicago
A social worker
Made to help people

Saturday night
Insanity
In the best way
My best friend from high school was in town
Jon
He lives in New York
Keeping people healthy on a massive scale
We went to Roxy
Never my favorite place
But on Saturday night
It was pretty feckin awesome
Because Jonny and his friends
Alec Brooks and Josh
Are funny funny funny people
Who know how to have a good time
And know how to handle things
When Jon starts punching people in the balls
Holler amazing friends

And then there's Nina
We're taking a Latin dance class together
And she was there on Friday
And Saturday
Taking care and having fun
I'm always amazed by how she talks to other people
Like, she really listens to every word
Reads every expression
And forms intensely intricate impressions
Which always seem to be accurate
Kind of blows my mind how well she knows people
How well she knows me
Hilarious and real as anyone I'll ever meet

We meet the people we're supposed to meet in this life
I met Phil so that I'd understand that perspectives are unique but needn't isolate you
I met Sonia because we are meant to create art together
I met Jon because we're soul brothers bound by history
And I met Nina to get a sense of what's possible beyond myself

My mother always said that friends are not family
And she was right
They're friends
And that's enough

stop with the friends and start thinking about family...you know, the ones who were ALWAYS there for you...family is better than a friend could ever be and i feel so bad for you that you don't know that...you should be ashamed of yourself...you have no conscience...YOU DON'T KNOW LOVE... it is so sad...really...family is love...WAKE THE F@%& UP...i no longer recognize you and i don't think i like who you have become...I HOPE MY WORDS RING IN YOUR EARS...someday soon you will wish you could go back to yesterday, and you won't be able to...SHAME ON YOU...GROW UP, STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know who wrote the first response, but who ever it is has their heads up their ass....if there is one thing about family, I have learned, it is that you do not have to recognize them all the time and yet they will always be there. Friends are great, and many times BETTER than family. For they see can you as an adult, and not in some kind of "box" as a little kid. family tends to, not always, treat you as you were at some younger age. So, first responder, i think you should grow up...for I can only imagine how PERFECT you and your family life is, and how in times of trouble...it isn't always that you call your family...friends can be a great support system too.

T: don't listen to that first responder.
