It's been a looong few days on this end. Lots of working. About the same amount of self-abusing. Not much sleeping. Daddy's exhausted.
Today, sweet. I'm on my way to NYC to see friends and shows. I'm taking a couple of people to see Passing Strange tonight. I can't get enough of that show. Really, trust me on this one. If you're a musicals-kind-of guy or gal, great. If you're not, even better. Change-your-life theater.
So yesterday, I get in a cab--I was running late for work--and the driver, who seems vaguely familiar to me, says, "Hey, you're the writer." And as soon as I heard his voice, it all came rushing back to me: He was the guy who told me that black people don't have the same capacity for knowledge as white people. So we're driving, and he tells me that Obama is a "black racist." And, unlike our last visit, I talked to him about it. Calmly, laughing at points too ridiculous for works, rationalizing. All these things I couldn't do the last time. And you know why I was able to do it now? Truly, it was Obama's speech, which made me realize that people all come from different places. No two perspectives align perfectly. The important thing it to try to respect the differences and assert rights where you see wrongs. That Obama's speech--those words that Clinton and others keep deriding as distraction techniques--had a positive impact on my daily life is enough reason for me to support him in the general election.
So no posts probably for the next couple of days. I'll be in NYC. Tonight, Passing Strange. Tomorrow, South Pacific and Gypsy. I'll let you know how it goes. Peace and love.
